Three months after the 2022 lockdown, Shanghai restaurants reopen from June 29, 2022. This is only in low-risk areas. The verdict is yet to be out as to what areas are “low-risk”. Nonetheless we’re excited! We’re only human after all. So, it’s natural that we want restaurant dining to be a part of our normal social life.
Below is a list of The Orangeblowfish’s top picks of restaurants and bars we will be visiting in the coming weeks.
Klay
Klay is on top of our list. Voted as People’s Choice – Best New Restaurant of the Year at the 2021 That’s Shanghai Food & Drinks Award, Klay is renowned for Indian cuisine with a fusion twist. We love their Lobster Masala, Garlic Naan, Truffle Cheese Naan, Lamb Gosht Curry. The list goes on. Their entire menu is good. Anyone hungry?
Located at 1124 Beijing Xi Road Shanghai, you can enjoy tapas-style Indian dishes in a contemporary atmosphere. While you’re waiting for your meal to be served, sip on one of their amazing cocktails and appreciate the hand-crafted wall art pieces!

The Broken Dagger
Looking for a speakeasy bar in Shanghai in the heart of the French Concession? The Broken Dagger is slightly hard to find. We’ll give you a hint. It’s on Xiangyang Bei Road and used to be hidden behind a giant mural. Yes, there was a giant mural once upon a time. The bar’s entrance was more mysterious than intended. Push past Medusa’s hair curse and you’ll hear the shuffle of cups, the clinking of glasses, and exciting chatter. A yellow flash provides the clue to an insider’s secret – blacklight illuminates the tattoos of revered statues inside. If you want to enter a place where myths live and breathe in the 21st century, then The Broken Dagger is your heaven. The godly cocktails are crafted by none other than Geo Valdivieso.
